There's a particular kind of magic that fills our campus once a year — the kind that comes with bubbling volcanoes, swirling colors, and little voices asking "but WHY does that happen?"

That's Science Discovery Day at NCC Santa Clara, and it's one of our favorite days of the year.

What Is Science Discovery Day?

Science Discovery Day is a hands-on, campus-wide event where our preschoolers explore simple science concepts through fun experiments and activities — from color mixing and sensory play to fizzing volcanoes and discovery stations. Every activity is designed to spark curiosity and ignite a love of learning.

What makes it extra special? It's run entirely by parent volunteers. Our NCC families set up stations, roll up their sleeves, and become scientists-for-a-day right alongside their children. The energy on campus is something you have to see to believe. 🙌

Why Science in Preschool Matters

Hands-on science exploration does powerful things for young children:

  • Critical Thinking — Observation, prediction, and cause-and-effect reasoning start at the science table.

  • Language & Vocabulary — Words like dissolve, reaction, and texture become part of a child's world naturally.

  • Fine Motor Skills — Pouring, mixing, and scooping build coordination essential for writing.

  • Growth Mindset — Science teaches children that trying again is part of the process — a lesson that extends far beyond the classroom.
